With Letizia Battaglia, in Palermo, he coordinated the activity of the Informazione Fotografica group, working with the newspaper L’Ora and with national and international press. In 1988 he was appointed a nominee member of the Magnum agency and travelled extensively in Eastern Europe, and conducted a photographic investigation into the relationship between industrial pollution and public health in Silesia. In 1994 he moved to Paris, where he covered international news as an independent photojournalist. For several years he conducted photographic research on nomadism in various parts of the world. He has received many international awards, and published several books. His photographs are part of the collections of important museums, such as the MOMA in New york and the Maison Européenne de la Photographie in Paris.
